Environmental advocate Nnanna Kalu has commended the appointment of businessman Obinna Iyiegbu, aka Obi Cubana, as South East Director of the City Boy Movement (CBM), describing it as a strategic move that will strengthen grassroots mobilization for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election.
Kalu, founder of Embassy Cleaning and a native of Ohafia in Abia State, said Obi Cubana’s deep community ties and widespread credibility make him uniquely suited to lead the charge in correcting misinformation about federal government policies across the South East.
He noted that a large segment of the region’s population remains either unaware or misinformed about key reforms and development initiatives under the current administration, a gap he believes the CBM can now effectively bridge.
Obi Cubana was formally appointed by Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, during a recent visit to the businessman’s Abuja residence, a move that has sparked mixed reactions.
While some critics view it as a betrayal of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who also hails from Anambra State, many have rallied in defence of the socialite, insisting that accepting the role reflects personal choice and conviction, not sentiment.
Kalu aligned with this view, stressing that inclusive participation in national development should transcend political affiliations. He expressed confidence that under Obi Cubana’s leadership, the City Boy Movement would drive effective public enlightenment and citizen engagement at the community level.
“Obi Cubana’s influence and connection with the grassroots uniquely position him to drive effective mobilization across South East communities,” Kalu said.
He reaffirmed his commitment to advocacy initiatives that promote informed citizenship, healthy living, and sustainable development across the region.
