New Imo CP Dismisses Three Officers, Orders Their Arraignment Over Armed Robbery, Kidnapping, Car Snatching



The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Audu Bosso, has dismissed three officers attached to the command over their involvement in armed robbery, kidnapping and car snatching.

MaaziTV authoritatively reports that the CP has also directed the command’s legal department to immediately arraign the dismissed officers for the offences.

Those affected are Sergeant Ekwueme Gift, Corporal Divine Ogwuaru and Eto Ikechukwu, as exclusively gathered by MaaziTV. A civilian driver, Elias Chukwu, was also implicated for allegedly driving the officers during the operation along Mbaise Road in Owerri, the state capital.

Investigations revealed that the dismissed officers were on an illegal duty and allegedly impersonated the Tiger Base Unit of the command. In the process, they criminally extorted the sum of one million, seven hundred thousand naira from a civilian identified as Obinna Egbu.

MaaziTV reports that the officers, who had been detained at the State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) in Owerri, were officially dismissed on February 12, 2026, after being found guilty of armed robbery, kidnapping and car snatching. They are to be arraigned in court in line with the directive of the new CP, who has reiterated his zero tolerance for unprofessional conduct within the command.

Upon assuming office last week, CP Bosso had warned that any officer found culpable of misconduct would face the full weight of the law in accordance with the Police Act and disciplinary code.

A source, who requested anonymity, exclusively told MaaziTV that now, "ex Sergeant Ekwueme Gift, Ex sergeant Eto ikechukwu and ex Corporal Divine Ogwuaru have been recommended for dismissal and arraignment by the new commissioner of police who has zero tolerance for unprofessionalism among serving officers of the command. It is there first and only command.

"Element of kidnapping and armed robbery abound. Car snatching is embedded in the armed robbery and the new CP without hesitation and protecting the image of force recommended for their immediate dismissal and arraignment.

"The defaulters were not duly posted on patrol on the date of this incident. The three of them conspired and committed this crime. It happened on February 8, 2026.

"Involved in armed robbery, kidnapping and car snatching Committed an offence against discipline contrary to paragraph E(I) and (iii) of the first schedule of the police act and regulation 370 and punishable under regulation 371 of the Act 2020 as amended. They also impersonated the Tiger Base Unit of command. They were dismissed today February 12.

"They extorted the sum of N1,7000, 000 as bribe to make them allow their victim go. Dropped the victim at Mbaise Road in Owerri. The victim is Obinna Egbu. The Civilian, Elias Chukwu that drove the car is being held, too. He will also be arraigned alongside them."

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer for the command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the development, stating that the suspects were apprehended, investigated and dismissed in line with the Act guiding police officers in Nigeria.

Okoye said, "the individuals involved in the embarrassing incident Sergeant Eto Ikechukwu, Sergeant Ekwueme Gift and corporal Divine Ogwuaru were promptly apprehended, thoroughly investigated and summarily dismissed from the Nigeria police Force inline with disciplinary procedures.

"Demonstrating a firm commitment to accountability and professionalism, the new Commissioner of Police, Imo State, CP Audu Bosso has directed that the former officers be arrigned.
